52 Celebrations (Sorta)

We’re Pulling the Most Wonderful Time of the Year Out from Under the Tree and Giving it a Run for Its Money!

Since April 2020 I’ve been taking a blog breather. I’ve been writing but haven’t felt compelled to share. I shrunk into myself and into my people and honestly didn’t hate it.

But here is what I do hate: the end of Christmas. I thrive in the “magic making” space that brings so much joy to my children. I thrive watching them experience the best of the best that the holidays have to offer. Taking down the tree literally depresses me to the nth degree….and since that beautiful evergreen came down I’ve been in a big ol’ funk. Which means my house has been operating at about 50% happiness. Something has to change.

P.S. if you didn’t catch it from the cold open up above – I’m back in the proverbial blogging saddle. Here goes nothin’….again. 🤷🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

A couple of years ago I initiated a plan to celebrate one thing per week, chosen by Charlie. His first week was to celebrate cutting down trees. The next was to celebrate slugs. And third ran into an actual holiday and after that, it fizzled out. But this year I have a renewed sense of hope and determination to pull the very best out of 2021.

So we shall try again (because since we’re the “okayest” we didn’t hit the mark the first go-round and that’s just okay by me!). We’re going to do 49 weeks of celebrations and we’re going to give it our all.

Some of these will be chosen by Charlie and some will be chosen by us (ex: the week we’re in Disney we damn well better be celebrating the Most Magical Place on Earth or else we’re staying home and throwing money into a fire pit instead 🤣). But overall, the point is to inject a little bit of joy into every week no matter how mundane. No celebration is too big and no celebration is too small.

Week 1/49 is Celebrating “Experiments” and so through next Saturday, we will be celebrating all types of experiments and trying to learn a little as we go. Charlie picked this week’s theme and on Sunday, I’ll do a post of all of the things we did to celebrate Experiments and maybe you’ll feel a little inspired to find your little celebrations, too. Or not. There is no pressure here and no need to feel like you’ve got to celebrate 49 things – but I do hope you feel some bit of magic in your days and weeks because the year is awfully long without it.

I’ve missed sharing with you guys and I know my mom and fiercely loyal great aunt have missed this reading material. I hope I can do this space justice and help every okayest mom know that being okay is absolutely fine. As a matter of fact: your family prefers you at your okayest over your most perfect, I can promise you that – and I hope that at the very least, you can celebrate YOU and all that you do for all of your people for the next 49 weeks because that is absolutely something worth celebrating. ❤
